BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb Softball wrapped up its last two home games of the season at Brinkley Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Dropping the pair of games to Campbell, 2-4 and 4-6.
GAME ONE: Campbell 4, Gardner-Webb 2
From the circle Georgeanna Barefoot took the win for Campbell, throwing the full seven inning frame she allowed six hits, two runs, while striking out just three batters.
Gardner-Webb paced the game in hits with a total of six, having just one more than the visiting Camels.
Weslyn Almond and
Trinity Sterrett both led the Dogs' by going 2-for-3 at the plate. While
Katie Mitchell and
Brooke Perry each had a single hit.
Andrea Lyon took her sixth loss of the season for the Runnin' Bulldog's. Throwing the full seven frames Lyon allowed five hits and four runs. While also fanning three batters.
GAME TWO: Campbell 6, Gardner-Webb 4
Megan Richards took the win home for the Campbell Camels in the second game. Pitching for just four innings, Richards allowed five hits, two runs, and two walks.
Taking her 11
th loss of the season,
Brooke Perry pitched six innings for GWU. Where she allowed seven hits and four runs, but she did manage to strike out nine batters.
The Runnin' Bulldog's managed to pace the second game in hits as well, this time tallying up 11 total. Mitchell led the team by hitting 3-for-4, while Perry went 2-for-3, and Almond went 2-for-4.
GWU's four runs were split evenly between the third and sixth innings. In the third inning McNiel was able to advance home on a throwing error by the Camel's third baseman, and Almond scored on a sacrifice fly hit to left field by Lyon. In the sixth inning,
Ramsey Schlafer scored on throwing error by Campbell's shortstop, and Michell was able to come home from and RBI single from Lyon.
Gardner-Webb Softball will be back in action on Friday, April 9
th as they take a road trip to face Charleston Southern. Game time is set for 6:00 PM.
