Runnin’ Bulldogs Set to Square Off Against UNC Asheville This Weekend

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb baseball is set to host UNC Asheville this weekend in a three-game Big South Conference series at Bill Masters Field at John Henry Moss Stadium beginning Friday at 5:00 pm before wrapping up with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
 
Gardner-Webb (23-19, 22-11 Big South) enters the weekend solidly in the top-three in the Big South standings.  Last weekend, the Runnin' Bulldogs took the series at Presbyterian with a 10-2 win on Friday followed by a 10-6 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
 
Eric Jones paces the GWU bats with a.341 average at the plate, which ranks 10th in the Big South and a team-high .418 on-base percentage.  Keiji Parkhurst leads the 'Dogs with 11 home runs, the third most in the league, followed by Patrick Ferguson with nine home runs and a team-best .603 slugging percentage, sixth in the Big South, and 38 RBI, tied for fifth in the league.  Cam Pearcey leads the Big South with 17 stolen bases.
 
On the mound, Mason Miller leads the Big South with 88 strikeouts and a .198 opposing batting average.  The right-hander ranks fourth in ERA at 2.88 and third with 72.0 innings pitched.  Isaac Campbell is tied for fourth among Big South relievers with four saves on the year.
 
UNC Asheville (15-27, 14-20 Big South) enters the weekend after a narrow 7-6 loss at USC Upstate this past Tuesday afternoon.
 
Brandon Lankford leads the Bulldogs with a .348 batting average and a Big South best 16 home runs.  Dominic Freeberger follows with a .326 average.
 
Kole Harris is Asheville's top starter on the mound with a 4.66 ERA in 48.1 innings pitched, while Jacob Edwards has a 5.46 ERA in 56.0 innings of work and a team-high 48 strikeouts.  Freeberger has also made 10 trips to the mound in relief with a low 1.80 ERA and two saves.
