Gardner-Webb Travels to Presbyterian For Weekend Big South Battle

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb baseball team travels to Clinton, S.C. this weekend, taking on Presbyterian in a three-game Big South Conference weekend series beginning Friday afternoon.
 
Gardner-Webb (21-17, 20-9 Big South) enters the weekend after taking two of three contests last weekend at Charleston Southern.  The Runnin' Bulldogs defeated the Buccaneers by a 5-4 score in 11 innings Friday night, and took the opening bout of Saturday's doubleheader, 10-6, to seal the series win.
 
Eric Jones currently paces the GWU offense with a .328 batting average, along with a team-high .418 on-base percentage.  Cam Pearcey follows with a .320 average and leads the Big South with 13 stolen bases.  Keiji Parkhurst leads the team with eight home runs while Patrick Ferguson has a team-high 32 RBI.
 
Mason Miller continues to lead Gardner-Webb's rotation with a 2.88 ERA in 65.2 innings of work, fanning 78 batters en route to a 4-1 record in ten starts.  In his last start, Miller struck out 11 batters, allowing just two runs on five hits in 8.0 innings of work in Friday's game at CSU.  Isaac Campbell has proven to be one of GWU's top relievers since moving to the bullpen, earning three saves in 42.2 innings of work among 18 trips to the mound, totaling 39 strikeouts.
 
Presbyterian (13-17, 12-12 Big South) enters this weekend's matchup after defeating UNC Asheville by a 4-2 score Wednesday afternoon.  Zacchaeus Rasberry led the Blue Hose with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, driving in one run.
 
Chris Veach leads the Blue Hose with a .344 batting average, followed by Rasberry with a .293 average, while Eric Toth leads the team with five home runs and 24 RBI.
 
Charlie McDaniel is PC's top arm, forging a 3-1 record in seven starts this season with a 3.71 ERA in 43.2 innings of work.  In his most recent outing, McDaniel tossed 6.2 innings, giving up four runs on eight base hits with three strikeouts in an 8-1 loss at USC Upstate this past Friday. Toth is also one of Presbyterian's top relievers, making 10 trips to the mound this season with a 2.08 ERA and four saves in 21.2 innings of work.
 
The three-game series begins Friday at 3:00 pm at the PC Baseball Complex, with the Blue Hose and Runnin' Bulldogs squaring off with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11:00 am.  All three games are set to be broadcast on ESPN+ (WatchESPN.com / ESPN App).
