DAVIDSON, N.C. – Gardner-Webb men's soccer wrapped up their final exhibition match of the 2021 season against Davidson College on Saturday evening. The 2-0 loss to the Wildcats was coupled with some evening thunderstorms which caused the original start time of 7:00 p.m. to be delayed.
In both halves of the night's exhibition match, the Runnin' Bulldogs defense gave up a goal on each side of the field.
"It was a great opportunity for us to solidify our opening lineup as we now turn our focus towards the regular season," said Head Coach
Tony Setzer. "Additionally, it was great to get some practice in on the pitch and try some new things with the squad before our opening day."
"Tonight, we were able to capitalize on some key plays and make smart moves, which I was very pleased with" said Setzer on the exhibition match in his post game press conference." Ultimately however, we made some crucial mistakes that led to goals on us, and we will correct these things and move forward."
Gardner-Webb men's soccer will open their season on Thursday, August 26
th in Macon, Georgia. As they take on Mercer University at 7:00 p.m.
