Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Gardner-Webb Women’s Soccer Loses 3-0 at UNC Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team took on UNC Charlotte on Thursday night under the lights at Transamerica Field. The 49ers won the matchup with a final score of 3-1.

"Tonight we faced another tough opponent. I give a lot of credit to UNC Charlotte and their coaching staff," said head coach Mike Varga. "We did a lot of things right in the first half and there were positives to take away from tonight's game. We created a couple chances that would have leveled the score but UNC Charlottes keeper came up big."

"We had players that played their first collegiate match tonight and gained valuable experience," continued head Coach Varga in his postgame presser. "I'm confident in this teams character and drive and have no doubt that we have the talent to compete at a very high level."

The 49ers managed to sneak the ball past the Runnin' Bulldogs defense three total times in tonights game. As Bizorek scored two back-to-back goals in the 18th and 55th minutes, and Hastings scored in the 88th minute of play.

Katelyn Kellogg spent the full 90 minutes between the posts for the Red and Black, and she led the match in saves with a total of 10, as the 49ers only tallied three.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action on Sunday, August 29th at 7:00 p.m., as they are set to host Western Carolina at Greene-Harbison Stadium. The action will stream on ESPN+.
