BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, topping the Virginia Military Institute in a 2-0 shutout.
"Sebastian stepped up big time for us tonight," said head coach
Tony Setzer. "I'm proud of the way our guys played, we attacked the ball the way we needed to take home the win."
After a scoreless first half of play, GWU turned up the heat scoring two back-to-back goals in the 48
th and 77
th minutes to secure the win.
Sebastian Reventlow netted both for the 'Dogs, with assists coming from teammates
Omar Boudaka, and
Owen Zaldivar.
The Runnin' Bulldogs paced the matchup in shots with a 11 total, the Keydets were only limited to a pair of shots.
Abel Gebrekiros and
Sebastian Reventlow led with three shots each.
The 'Dogs led the game in corner kicks with nine, VMI had two corner kick opportunities throughout the night.
Mallel Rios earned the shutout win for GWU, having one save during his 90 minutes between the posts.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday, September 14
th, as they travel up to Virginia to take on the Liberty Flames. The match is slated to start at 7 pm, and will stream on ESPN+.
