Women’s Soccer Falls To Clemson, 4-0

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team faced off against ACC foe Clemson University at Greene-Harbison Stadium on Sunday night. The Tigers took home a 4-0 win over the 'Dogs at the end of regulation.

"I was happy with our effort, Clemson is a quality team," said head coach Mike Varga. "We came out with a plan and I thought we executed it well throughout the match. The goal right before the half to make it 2-0 could have been demoralizing but we competed for 90 minutes tonight. Clemson is an organized, talented, and well coached team. I thought we made them uncomfortable at times.  I really appreciate Clemson coming to play us at our place, the atmosphere was a lot of fun tonight."

The Tigers managed to successfully strike four times on the Runnin' Bulldog defense throughout the night, as Hal Hershfelt scored in the 20th minute, Fran Stables found the net in the 44th minute, White Harper netted one in the 71st minute, and Lyles Renee sealed it for Clemson in the 78th minute.

Clemson paced the night in shots with 25, Gardner-Webb took just four. Maddie Turlington, Ayse Demirci, Anna Fish, and Marina Bradic each recorded a single shot during the duration of the match.

The Red and Black did not have any corner kick opportunites this evening, as the Tigers had seven. Clemson also led the match in fouls with 12 total, Gardner-Webb recorded nine.

Katelyn Kellogg spent 87 minutes in goal for the 'Dogs, and led the match with 9 monster saves. Newcomer Cheyenne Fuller logged three minutes of play, subbing in at the end to tonight's match for GWU.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action as they take on Big South opponent UNC Asheville at Greene-Harbison Stadium on Saturday, September 18th. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm.
