Men’s Soccer Drops Home Opener To Wofford, 1-0
September 07, 2021 | Men's Soccer
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team took on Wofford College in its long-awaited season opener under the lights at Greene-Harbison Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Terriers took the win over the Runnin' Bulldogs with a final score of 1-0, Wofford.
"Wofford is a tough opponent to match up with," said head coach Tony Setzer "We have to give them credit, as they managed to score on us early in the game. We were able to limit their attacking game, but we need to do a better job attacking and converting the ball too. We will go back to the drawing board and regroup before hosting VMI on Saturday."
The lone goal and eventual game winner of the evening came from Jackson Wrobel for the Terriers, early on in the 6th minute of match play.
Pacing the night, the Runnin' Bulldogs recorded seven total shots, as the terriers only took four chances. Abdul Manaf Amadu and Odal Brown had two shots each, teammate Ryan Madondo had a pair coming off of the bench for the 'Dogs.
The Red and Black also led the match in corners with six, while Wofford had just one less.
The 'Dogs also racked up 19 fouls over the 90 minutes of regulation time, as the Terriers only recorded ten.
GWU will be back in action at Greene-Harbison Stadium on Saturday, September 11th, as they will host VMI. Kickoff is slated for 4 pm and will stream live on ESPN+.
