BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team notched its fourth consecutive win on Tuesday evening, as they edged Presbyterian College by a margin of just eight points. The final score was 64-56, Gardner-Webb.
Tonight's match came down to the wire late in the fourth period, but the 'Dogs stole the show with six consecutive free throws from
Jhessyka Williams and
Alasia Smith seal the win.
Gardner-Webb (7-10, 5-1) shot 34.8% (23-for-66) from the floor, 13.0% (3-for-23) from beyond the arc, and 65.2% (15-for-23) at the charity stripe. The Runnin' Bulldogs scored 34 points in the paint, 11 points off of the bench, and capitalized off of 19 points scored from PC turnovers.
Presbyterian (7-8,2-3) shot 45.8% (22-for-48) in field-goal range, 25.0% (3-for-12) in three-point range, and 56.3% (9-for-16) at the free-throw line. The Blue Hose also managed to score 34 points in the paint, along with nine fast break points, and eight points off of the bench.
The pair of Smith and Williams both put up double-digits in points, while also locking in a set of double-doubles in tonight's win. Smith led with a team-high 22 points (7-9 FG, 2-2 3PT, 6-8 FT), 11 rebounds, and three steals. Williams followed with 15 points (5-15 FG, 0-3 3PT, 5-9 FT), 14 rebounds, four steals, and half as many assists. Tonight was Smith's seventh double-double of the season (10th of career) and Williams' sixth (Eighth of career).
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, January 22, as they travel up to Farmville, Virginia to take on Longwood University. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
