BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team faced North Carolina A&T on Saturday afternoon inside Paul Porter Arena. In a down-to-the-wire matchup, the Aggies bested the Runnin' Bulldogs with a final score of 90-88.
Gardner-Webb (7-13, 5-4) shot 46.3% (31-for-67) from the floor, 45.8% (11-for-24) from beyond the arc, and 83.3% (15-for-18) at the charity stripe. The Runnin' Bulldogs scored 38 points in the paint, 18 second-chance points, and 18 points off of turnovers.
North Carolina A&T (8-10,5-3) shot 50.0% (32-for-64) in field-goal range, 29.4% (5-for-17) in three-point range, and 87.5% (21-for-24) at the free-throw line. The Aggies capitalized off of 46 points in the paint, 21 second-chance points, and 19 points off of turnovers.
The Runnin' Bulldogs spent 29:46 minutes of today's contest with the lead, as they only trailed for a total of 3:23 minutes of game time. GWU led by as many as 16 points in today's matchup, and its largest scoring run of the day was nine points over 1:33 in the third period.
All five of Gardner-Webb's starters put up double-digits in today's contest.
Jhessyka Williams and
Alasia Smith recorded 20 points apiece, while the Duo of
Lauren Bevis and
Ki'Ari Cain logged 15 points each.
Lyrissa Deans put up 12 points and a new career-high four blocks.
The 'Dogs will be back in action on Tuesday, February 1, as they take on Hampton University inside the friendly confines of Paul Porter Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and will stream live on ESPN+.
