Pair of Gardner-Webb Standouts Earn Big South Weekly Football Honors

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb's Bailey Fisher and Jayden Brown each earned Big South Conference Weekly Football awards on Monday afternoon following strong efforts over the weekend.

Fisher (Clayton, Ga. / Rabun County HS) was named Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after directing a robust offensive effort in Gardner-Webb's 48-0 win at Robert Morris Saturday. He also earned FedEx Ground/Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

He hit on 20-of-24 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns, and added 16 yards rushing and another touchdown on the ground. He posted a season-high pass efficiency rating of 209.63 in the game, with his touchdown pass total also marking a season's best.

The 5-foot-11, 207-pound senior powered Gardner-Webb to 574 yards of total offense, a 5-of-5 effort inside the red zone (all touchdowns) and 27 first downs.

Fisher's four-yard keeper in the first quarter put Gardner-Webb on top for good. He added touchdown passes of four yards and 62 yards in the first half and a nine-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter.

Fisher did his damage in less than three full quarters of action.

The game also marked a pair of milestones for Fisher, as he crossed the 8,000-yard passing mark (8,197) and 9,000-yard total offense mark (9,245).

Brown (Lithonia, Ga. / Miller Grove HS) was named Freshman of the Week, which marked the fourth time this season that a Gardner-Webb rookie has been named Freshman of the Week.

Brown came on in relief at Robert Morris and scored a pair of second-half touchdowns in a 48-0 win on the road. He posted a career-high 85 yards and two scores on 10 carries, scoring on a seven-yard run in the third quarter and plowing through defenders on a 41-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter.

The rushing touchdowns were the first of his Gardner-Webb career. The former All-State selection at Miller Grove (Ga.) High led DeKalb County in rushing as a senior in 2021.

Gardner-Webb (2-4, 1-0 Big South) steps out of conference play on Saturday for the final time this regular season, traveling to face Liberty at 3:30 pm in Lynchburg (ESPN+). The game will air live on WGNC Radio 1450 AM / 101.1 FM with Dave Friedman and Reginald Walker, Jr., on the call.
