Men's Soccer Draws Even With Radford Saturday

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Men's Soccer drew 1-1 against Radford in a tense Saturday afternoon matchup. Marcovich Brown's first career goal with the team put GWU up in the first half with Radford scoring in the second half to equalize.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs entered the day fifth in the table with eight points, trailing the fourth-placed Highlanders by a point. Gardner-Webb holds nine with two matches to play while Radford has ten.
 
Gardner-Webb was pouring pressure on in the first half putting four shots on goal. GWU's lone goal of the first came from the boot of Marcovich Brown in the 42nd minute from 30 yards out into the bottom left corner of the net. The opportunity developed from a clearance by Javier Ramirez that took a flick off Pablo Brimeux into the feet of Brown.
 
In the second, the 'Dogs had an opportunity come in the 63rd minute. It came from Aymane Sordo who collected a through ball, got by his defender, and chipped a ball at the goal that got punched away by Radford's Joseba Incera. Shortly after the chance, the Highlanders broke through with the equalizer in the 67th as Jan Maldanado drove home a low cross by Jared Dubose.
 
Gardner-Webb kept the attack on for the remaining 20 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net. The teams' tempers continued to build all afternoon, culminating in a stoppage in the 88th minute due to a brawl. A red card was shown to Brandon Mbo as a result of the scuffle.
 
GWU had 20 shots during the game and took 10 corners, while Radford took nine shots and two corners. Ramirez' finished with four saves, and Incera had nine.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs have Senior Night for their next matchup hosting Johnson & Wales at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25. Following this, Gardner-Webb will turn their attention to their Big South regular season finales at Longwood (10/29) and vs Campbell (11/2) as they fight for a spot in the conference tournament.
