Gardner-Webb Women Roll To 90-57 Win At Furman Tuesday Night

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Gardner-Webb put four women in double figures and rolled to a 90-57 road win at Furman Tuesday night.

Gardner-Webb (2-1) won its second in a row and used a 19-5 burst in the second quarter to pull away. The Runnin' Bulldogs poured it on in the second half, scoring 55 points to pull away further.

Lauren Bevis led the way with 17 points – making 5-of-9 from deep in 25 minutes. Jhessyka Williams added 15 points and eight boards, Alasia Smith recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards and Ki'Ari Cain added 11 points for Gardner-Webb. Layken Cox scored nine points in the post and both L'Mia Littlejohn and Grace Pack scored a season-high eight points off the bench.

The second-half burst was powered by a 58.8 percent shooting effort and Gardner-Webb finished at an effective 49.3 percent for the game (33-of-67).

Gardner-Webb led 16-13 after the first quarter and used its 19-point second quarter to lead comfortably by intermission. The Runnin' Bulldogs ran to a 32-19 edge in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Nine different players scored for Gardner-Webb and the Runnin' Bulldogs were suffocating on defense, limiting the Paladins to a 14-of-48 effort for the game (29.2 percent).  GWU had 18 steals, forced 28 turnovers and converted those miscues into 35 points.

Furman kept the game from getting even more out of hand by making 26-of-29 free throws on Tuesday. Guard Jaelyn Acker scored a team-high 16 points by making a perfect 14-of-14 at the stripe.

Gardner-Webb will be back in action on Saturday, hosting Georgia Southern in Paul Porter Arena.
