Gardner-Webb's Tre Lamb Named Finalist For 2022 Eddie Robinson Award

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb head coach Tre Lamb was named one of 16 finalists for the 2022 Eddie Robinson Award as FCS National Coach of the Year.
The award, administered by Stats Perform, is in its 36th season and has been presented each year since 1987. A national media panel will select the winner, who will be announced on December 8.
Lamb (Calhoun, Ga.) led Gardner-Webb to its first Big South Conference football championship since 2003 and its first ever berth in the NCAA Division I FCS Playoffs.
The second-youngest head coach in Division I football (33), Lamb navigated a challenging early schedule that featured three FBS games, two nationally-ranked FCS programs and a four-game road swing in October. After a 1-4 start with several narrow defeats, he rallied the Runnin' Bulldogs to wins in five of their last six games – and four in a row – to sweep through the Big South Conference.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were especially crisp against Big South competition, averaging 40.8 points and 520.0 yards per game offensively. The GWU defense was also stout, limiting foes to just 111.4 yards per game on the ground and only 20 third down conversions in five games.
Lamb is the first Gardner-Webb head coach to earn a spot on the of finalists for the Robinson Award – which is named in honor of the legendary former Grambling State head coach who went 408-165-15 during a storied career that spanned 56 years.
Robinson led his Tigers to nine national titles and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997.
