BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb fell to Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon on an 82-71 score. The win marked the third consecutive for the Mocs as the teams played their first games in December.
The first half saw the teams trade the lead 14 times as each team traded punches. The Runnin' Bulldogs had a slight 39-38 edge after the first 20 minutes. The biggest separation between the teams was four points during the period.
In the second, Chattanooga used an 11-2 run between the 16- and 11-minute marks to take control of the game and was able to hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game. The Mocs used a 19-25 line at the charity stripe and five makes from deep during the half to key GWU at bay. In the late stages of the game, the 'Dogs were able to force turnovers off the Chattanooga inbound plays
Gardner-Webb was firing on all cylinders in the first half, converting six shots from downtown while shooting 59% (16-27) from the floor. The second, GWU hit 9 of 33 (27%) from the floor and just two from behind the arc.
The Runnin' Bulldogs defense saw the Mocs turn the ball over 19 times with 14 of them directly off steals from GWU players.
Julien Soumaoro finished the game with a career-high five steals.

DQ Nicholas tied for the team lead in scoring with 14.
Anthony Selden was also in double figured with 11 and had seven boards.
Ludovic Dufeal also finished the game with seven rebounds.
