BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb improved to 2-0 at home this season after its Tuesday afternoon win against Lenoir-Rhyne by a 4-3 decision. The Runnin' Bulldogs used all nine players in today's match.
"Today was a tough match against LR," said Head Coach
Mike Griffith. "Overall, I am pleased with the win, but we've got to finish better."
In doubles,
Sebastian Harris and
Numa Lemieux-Monette paired up for the first time and claimed a 6-2 win in the #2 position.
John Spring and
Cathal Butler won 6-3 in the #3 flight to clinch the doubles point for the Runnin' Bulldogs. LR claimed the matchup in the topflight 6-3.
Gardner-Webb quickly clinched the overall win by defeating Lenoir-Rhyne in straight sets in the first three singles matches to be completed.
Eduardo Dias won 6-1, 6-1 at #3 followed by Spring 6-0, 6-1 at #6.
Connor Enslin 6-0, 6-2 win in the #5 position clinched the win for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Lenoir-Rhyne kept the pressure up for the rest of the match-winning the last three matchups of the day. Josh Lazenby won 6-2, 6-4 at #2 with Rhodri Atkinson winning 6-1, 7-6(7). LR's Lewis Scott finished the afternoon beating
Alex Lepine 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (13).
"We have another opportunity tomorrow and we will be ready," said Griffith.
Gardner-Webb hosts Lees-McRae tomorrow with the match scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
