Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Match To Kennesaw State Saturday Afternoon

Box Score BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb played its second match in as many days on Saturday, falling to Kennesaw State by a 5-2 team score in non-conference tennis action.

The Owls won the first doubles match, 6-4, but Gardner-Webb evened things with a 6-4 win of its own at No. 2 doubles by Connor Enslin and Sebastian Harris. Kennesaw State took a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles to pick up the doubles point.

KSU opened up a 3-0 lead after wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, but Gardner-Webb rallied with wins by No. 4 Eduardo Dias (7-5, 6-2) and No. 5 Alex Lepine (4-6, 6-1, 6-2) to stay in contention.

Chrisjan Van Wyck got off to a rousing start at No. 2 singles in attempt to tie the match at three points each – winning the opening set 6-2 – but Raul Garcia clinched the win for Kennesaw State with wins in the second and third set.

"We are too close and it was a very good college tennis match," said head coach Mike Griffith. "We need to do better in doubles and, if we do, we win today. KSU was better and deserved the victory."

The GWU men will be back in action on February 23 at Limestone.
