BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb Softball Team faced Youngstown State in the final day of the Runnin' Bulldog Classic on Sunday Morning. The 'Dogs ultimately fell 8-1 in favor of Youngstown State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Going into the fifth inning, it was a 2-0 ballgame with the Penguins in front. Abbey Goodrum, who spent the weekend at the top of the order for the 'Dogs, hit a single into play. Goodrum's single allowed Mckenzie Lawrence to come home and make it a 2-1 ballgame. 
 
Youngstown State responded in the sixth inning with a double RBI and a pair of RBI homers to make it a 7-1 game, eventually scoring again in the seventh to make it an 8-1 game over the Runnin' Bulldogs. 
 
Andrea Lyon took the loss for GWU. Pitching a total of 5.2 innings, Lyon allowed seven hits and six runs with six strikeouts and one walk.

Softball will be back for more on Saturday, February 19 in doubleheader action against Morehead State and East Tennessee State.
