BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb rallied with a run in the ninth and had a runner in scoring position with two outs, but fell to NJIT by a 4-3 score in Friday's 2022 lid lifter.
Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, Gardner-Webb (0-1) got a leadoff single from
Benino Mendella – who moved to second quickly on a wild pitch. He advanced to third after a ground ball, then scored on
Jacob Marcos' RBI groundout.

Alex Ray reached and moved all the way to second base on a throwing error by the Highlanders (1-0), but a ground ball ended the game.
Ray cut the NJIT lead to 4-2 with an RBI single in the seventh.
