Gardner-Webb Men Wrap Up First Tournament Of 2022 Spring Season Tuesday

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Gardner-Webb wrapped up its first men's golf tournament of the spring season on Tuesday, finishing 15th at the 2022 Wexford Intercollegiate.
Gardner-Webb (298-302-317-917) finished two strokes behind Big South foe Winthrop and three strokes in front of Cleveland State.
Shelby, N.C., native Zack Byers paced Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, carding a 1-under par score of 71 to move into a tie for 21st individually. Byers (75-74-71-220) sank six birdie putts on Tuesday, including four on the back nine and consecutive birdies on the 17th and 18th holes. His was the lowest round of the week for any GWU golfer.
Miles Albright (75-77-79-231) shot a 79 on Tuesday and recorded a birdie on the fifth hole and shot part on 10 holes to finish his week. Peech Bunnadodee (72-76-84-232), Jules Bondil (76-75-83-234) and Jake Kehoe (84-87-89-260) rounded out Gardner-Webb's participants for the 54-hole event.
Host Francis Marion rallied to win the tournament, nipping Furman by one stroke. Mercer's Tobias Johnson won medalist honors with a three-round score of 212 (4-under par).
Gardner-Webb will compete next at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate on March 7-8 in Aiken, S.C. That event will be played at the Palmetto Golf Club and is hosted by USC Aiken.
