THE OPENING TIP
  • Gardner-Webb bounced back with a 76-68 road win at Presbyterian on Saturday to give the Runnin' Bulldogs their eighth 10-win league campaign in nine seasons under Coach Craft.
  • Gardner-Webb's 10-4 start to league play remains its best in 14 seasons in the Big South. Prior to this year, GWU had never started better than 5-4.
  • The win over PC marked the first time this season GWU has alternated wins and losses. Through 27 games, the 'Dogs have gone: L3, W4, L4, W5, L3, W6, L1, W1.
  • A win on Wednesday over Asheville would clinch either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed and secure a first-round bye for Gardner-Webb in the Big South Tournament.
  • GWU ranks 17th nationally and first in the Big South in FG% defense (.390). The 'Dogs also check in at No. 9 in the nation in 3P% defense (.283).
  • Only three teams have reached 80 points vs. GWU this season (#8 Duke, #16 Arkansas, Winthrop). Those same three teams are also the only three opponents to make double-digit 3-pointers vs. the 'Dogs.
  • Gardner-Webb has held  league opponents under 70 points in all but two games this seasons. In conference games only, GWU leads the Big South in scoring defense  (62.4) and FG% defense (.387) while ranking second in both 3P% defense (.292) and scoring margin (+5.9).
  • In conference games only, the Runnin' Bulldogs are also tied for the most team blocks per game along with Hampton and Asheville (4.4).
  • Lance Terry and D'Maurian Williams lead the Runnin' Bulldogs averaging 14.1 PPG apiece overall. Terry averages a team-high 14.6 PPG in Big South games, followed by Williams at 14.1 PPG.
