Softball Sweeps Hampton In Doubleheader Action Friday Evening

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb opened league play against Hampton by sweeping both contests on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Gardner-Webb 2, Hampton 1
 
Gardner-Webb put up two runs in the seventh inning to seal the win. Araceli Pesqueira hit a single 2RBI into play allowing Katie Mitchell and Abbey Goodrum to put two runs on the board for the 'Dogs.
 
Andrea Lyon (3-5) took the win in the circle, pitching the full game she allowed five hits and a single run, while striking out five batters.
 
Game Two: Gardner-Webb 8, Hampton 7 (10 Innings)
 
The nightcap extended into extra innings, as it was all tied up 7-7 at the end if the seventh. Then after two and a half scoreless extra innings, Bridgette Strobl hit a double into play, allowing Pesqueira to cross home plate and win the game in walk off fashion.
 
UP NEXT
The Runnin' Bulldogs will close out the series versus Hampton tomorrow, Saturday, March 12, at noon. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.
