WICHITA, Kan. – Gardner-Webb catcher Humberto Torres has been named to the prestigious 2022 Buster Posey Award Watch List, presented by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

The award is given to the top catcher in NCAA Division I and this year's winner will be announced on June 29. A group of semifinalists will be announced on May 19 and a national voting committee will determine a list of finalists – which will be announced on June 7.

Torres (Miami, Fla.) is one of 77 catchers on the initial Watch List. He missed the first month of Gardner-Webb's 2022 season with an injury, but made his debut during Friday's doubleheader against Brown. The transfer from FIU scored a run and drove in a run during Gardner-Webb's 6-2 win in the opener, also catching a complete-game, 11-strikeout performance by right hander Joe Simeone.

The former Belen Jesuit (Fla.) Prep standout played in 36 games during his time at FIU and was an All-County and All-District selection on the prep level. He batted .349 with six home runs and 33 RBI as a senior.

He was rated as one of the nation's top-200 catchers in the Class of 2018 by Perfect Game.
