Gardner-Webb Splits Saturday Action Against North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Gardner-Webb faced league foe North Carolina A&T on a windy Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, North Carolina, as it split the day's action and took a big win in the second game. 
 
GAME INFORMATION 
Scores: Game One: North Carolina A&T 8, Gardner-Webb 1; Game Two: Gardner-Webb 9, North Carolina A&T 0
Records: Gardner-Webb (10-11, 3-2); North Carolina A&T (10-14, 1-4)
Location: Aggies Softball Complex (Greensboro, N.C.)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
Game One: North Carolina A&T 8, Gardner-Webb 1
 
The 'Dogs put up the first run of the day in the third inning, as Abby Goodrum hit a single to left field, allowing Riley McCurry to come home and put a run on the board. 
 
Over the course of the next three innings, the Aggies found a hefty response, putting up eight total runs to punch in an Aggies win.
 
Andrea Lyon (4-7) took the loss in the circle for the Runnin' Bulldogs, she pitched 6.0 innings, allowing eight hits, eight runs, while striking out seven total batters.
 
Game Two: Gardner-Webb 9, North Carolina A&T 0
 
Gardner-Webb bounced back in game two, as it put up nine runs to take home a big mercy-rule win. 
 
The Trio of Abbey Goodrum (2-for-4), Molly Montgomery (2-for-2), and Acraceli Pesqueira (2-for-2) each put up two runs in the second contest, While Bridgette Strobl (1-for-2) and Katie Mitchell (1-for-4) each registered a single hit.
 
Sydney Gilbert (4-3) threw a shutout no-hitter from the circle for the 'Dogs, as she only walked one batter while striking out six total. 
 
COACH QUOTABLE 
"I thought we were a little flat the first game," said head coach Bailey Wigness. "We threw away too many at-bats and didn't make plays on defense when we needed to." I'm really proud of the way we bounced back in our second game today. Sydney Gilbert was phenomenal in the circle and the offense did what they are capable of doing. We are putting ourselves in a position to win a conference series tomorrow on the road and that is huge for us."
 
UP NEXT
The Runnin' Bulldogs will face the Aggies tomorrow (Sunday, March 20) at 1 p.m., as they look to wrap up their second league series of the 2022 season.
