FARMVILLE, VA. – Gardner-Webb defeated Longwood 6-1 to improve to 3-0 in Big South play for the team's best start in school history within the conference.
The day started with GWU getting quick decisions on the doubles courts.
Katie Watts and
Emilia Roslund won 6-1 on court 3 and
Teodora Ristic and
Maria Jardim won 6-4 from #2 to clinch the point.
Manon Delsol and
Elin Hellberg were unable to win a close 7-5 match from the topflight.
The Runnin' Bulldogs had three, quick, decisive singles victories that clinched the team's win. Delsol won 6-0, 6-0 from court 2 followed by Ristic winning 6-0, 6-2 from the #1 position. The match was clinched by
Elise Semmartin with her victory on court #6, 6-0, 6-2.
The rest of the day afternoon finished with GWU losing a match in a super tiebreaker and the team winning two others in straight sets. Hellberg won at 4 with the final being 6-3, 6-1. Jardim lost in the super tiebreaker from the third set on court 3. The day finished with Roslund winning 6-4, 7-5 at position #5.
Gardner-Webb has five more Big South matches in a row. Their next match is Tuesday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m. hosting Radford (3-1).
