BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb softball team faced Western Carolina on Wednesday evening, on the home turf, which turned into a single game contest due to the weather.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Andrea Lyon opened up the scoring in the third inning for the 'Dogs, belting a double into play that allowed
Katie Mitchell to cross home plate. Making it a 1-0 ballgame.
Gardner-Webb loaded the bases in the following inning,
McKenzie Lawrence hit a grand slam over the left field fence. The grand slam put the Runnin' Bulldogs ahead 5-1 and was the first HR of Lawrence's career.
Later on in the fifth, pinch runner
Alexa Key crossed home plate from a fly ball hit to center field by
Araceli Pesqueira.
Sydney Gilbert (5-4) took the win for Gardner-Webb, allowing four hits, two runs, while striking out six batters.
