BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell handed Gardner-Webb its first conference loss of the year on a 5-2 decision. GWU is now 4-1 in the Big South, and Campbell is 3-1.
The Camels got off to an early lead by clinching the doubles point. The team won matches on courts 1 and 3 by 6-2 and 6-1 decisions. The match at flight 2 went unfinished with GWU trailing 4-3.
Singles began with
Elise Semmartin winning on court 6 due to her opponent being forced to retire. Semmartin was leading in the first set 1-0 when it was ended. Following this,
Teodora Ristic won her match in the topflight 6-1, 6-2. With her win, the Runnin' Bulldogs got to a 2-1 lead.
Campbell stormed back in the remaining matches, being victorious in the last four. The Camels won in straight sets on courts 2 and 4. In position #3, Mialy Raniavo clinched the match with her 6-1, 7-6(4). The day ended with
Emilia Roslund losing in three sets on court 5.
After the loss, Gardner-Webb will be back in action at Presbyterian on Thursday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m.
