CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb will advance to the finals of the 2022 Big South Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday, April 23.
The Big South Conference announced this morning that Friday's Women's Tennis Championship semifinal matchup featuring No. 2 seed Campbell and No. 3 seed Gardner-Webb, has been canceled due to COVID concerns within the Campbell program.
Due to conference policy, Campbell has forfeited the match, which means the Runnin' Bulldogs advance to the title match at 3:00 pm against the winner of No. 1 Charleston Southern and No. 4 UNC Asheville.
Gardner-Webb will make its first appearance in the Big South finals since joining the conference prior to the 2009 season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs defeated No. 4 UNC Asheville on the road by a 5-2 score on March 2. Teodora Ristic, Manon Delsol, Elin Hellberg and Emilia Roslund each picked up singles wins to spark that victory.
GWU lost to No. 1 seed Charleston Southern at home on April 3 by a 5-2 score. Ristic and Hellberg picked up singles wins in that battle.
Gardner-Webb advanced to the semifinals after their 4-0 win against #6 Radford on Friday, April 15. Maria Jardim clinched the team's win with her straight-set victory on court #3.
