HIGH POINT – Gardner-Webb had four men selected to the 2022 All-Big South Conference Baseball Team Tuesday afternoon as the league announced its postseason awards.

The Runnin' Bulldogs had pitcher Joe Simeone (Groton, Mass. / UConn), rightfielder Curtis Robison (Dillsburg, Pa. / Penn State) and first baseman Alec Burns (Amherst, Mass. / West Virginia) each selected to the All-Big South second team.

Centerfielder Jacob Marcos (Miami, Fla. / Catawba Valley CC) earned honorable mention All-Big South honors and second baseman AJ Jones (Nashville, N.C. / Southern Nash HS) was selected to the Big South's All-Academic Team.

He ranked second in wins with eight and factored into all 14 decisions in his starts (8-6). Simeone limited foes to a frigid .210 batting average and won five Big South starts with a 3.60 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 60.0 innings of work.

He threw at least 7.0 innings in eight different starts and topped 100 pitches thrown in 10 starts.

Robison finished the regular season ranked second in the Big South with 24 stolen bases and 17 doubles, batting .305 with a league-best 38 walks. He ranked in the top-10 on the circuit in seven different offensive categories and was the GWU leader in hits, runs scored and total bases. Robison also played a strong right field, posting a team-high four outfield assists.

Burns came alive in May, batting .366 with six home runs and 18 RBI so far this month. He finished the season overall with a team-best .320 average, 14 home runs and 43 RBI to go with a stellar .445 on base percentage. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound slugger hit safely in 11 of the regular season's final 12 games and ranked among the league leaders in home runs, on base percentage and slugging percentage.

Burns was also one of the Big South's top defenders, regardless of position, fielding a crisp .997 fielding percentage with only one error in 314 chances at first base.

Marcos earned legendary status roaming centerfield, using his speed to land in the SportsCenter Top 10 for the second time in as many seasons. He finished the season with three outfield assists and fielded .993 for the 'Dogs. His glove was far from his only weapon, as he batted .300 with 26 runs scored in 24 Big South Conference games and led the league with 28 stolen bases overall.

Marcos batted a sizzling .538 when leading off an inning in Big South Conference play and finished with career-highs in batting average, doubles and RBI during the regular season.

Jones was also a key part of the Big South's top defensive team, playing a solid second base in 55 starts. He batted a team-high .341 in 24 Big South starts and finished at .268 on the season. Jones hit safety in 15 of the final 17 league games of the season and ranked second on the team with 13 doubles.

In the classroom, the sophomore carries a 3.59 cumulative grade point average in his management major.

Gardner-Webb, the No. 6 seed in the 2022 Ingles Big South Conference Baseball Championship, will battle No. 3 seed UNC Asheville on Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm in the first round. GWU defeated UNC Asheville twice on the road earlier in May for a key league series win.
