Zack Byers Set For NCAA Championships Friday Afternoon In Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Gardner-Webb senior Zack Byers will tee off at 4:42 Friday afternoon to begin the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club.
The Grayhawk Golf Club Raptor Course features a 7,289-yard, Par 70 layout and will host the NCAA Division I Championships through 2023.
Byers (Shelby, N.C. / Shelby HS) wrapped up his practice round on Thursday. The championship event features 30 teams and six individuals. Byers is seeded third of those six individual golfers and will be paired with RJ Manke (Washington) and Evans Lewis (South Carolina).
The tournament's initial stage features 54 holes – 18 each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A final round will be held on Monday.
Byers was the low man among golfers outside of the top five team finishers at last week's Palm Beach Regional, finishing sixth overall to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
He is in the midst of his best season with Gardner-Webb, posting a 71.45 season scoring average through 35 rounds. Since March, Byers has posted 17 rounds of par or better, with only one round over par during that stretch. Eight of those rounds have been in the 60s.
Byers won three individual titles this season, most recently at the 2022 Big South Conference Men's Golf Championship in Ninety Six, S.C. That win vaulted him into the NCAA Regionals – a first for a Gardner-Webb golfer.
