CHARLOTTE – The Big South Conference announced on Wednesday that four Gardner-Webb athletic teams have been named winners of the league's Team Sportsmanship Award.
The Gardner-Webb teams recognized for their exceptional sportsmanship include women's volleyball as a fall recipient, as well as men's and women's golf and women's lacrosse from the spring. The four total team honorees is tied for the highest total in the Big South this year.
The award marks the sixth consecutive for women's volleyball, who has earned the honor seven times in the last eight years.
Men's golf has now won the award seven straight times and eight times overall, while women's golf takes home the honor for the third-straight year and the eighth time overall since joining the Big South.
As for women's lacrosse, it marks the second time the Runnin' Bulldogs have earned the Sportsmanship Award since the program's formation in 2015.
The Big South Conference developed team and institutional sportsmanship awards in 2005-06. The team awards are voted on by Big South student-athletes and awarded at the end of each competition season. Teams cannot vote for themselves. Each institution ranks and votes for its top three, and teams receive three points for a first-place ranking, two points for a second-place ranking and one point for a third-place ranking.
