Ryan Carr Named Gardner-Webb Assistant Director of Strategic Communication

Carr returns to Gardner-Webb Athletics after serving as a student-athlete and intern with the Runnin’ Bulldogs
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Ryan Carr has been named the new Assistant Director of Strategic Communication for Gardner-Webb University Athletics, bringing a familiar face back to the Runnin' Bulldogs' athletics department.
Carr returns to Gardner-Webb following his most recent role as an Event Services Technician at the university, where he assisted with the setup and breakdown of campus events, reviewed weekly event schedules and coordinated with campus departments to ensure event needs were met.
"Ryan is a great addition to our department," said Gardner-Webb Vice President for Athletics Brendan Fahey. "His past experiences and institutional knowledge will allow him to be successful in promoting our teams and student-athletes."
"Ryan brings a great understanding of Gardner-Webb and our athletics department to this position," said Tony Venegas, Gardner-Webb Assistant Athletic Director of Strategic Communication. "Having been a student-athlete, intern and member of the campus community, he already understands what makes this place special."

A former men's soccer student-athlete, Carr previously served as an Athletics Intern at Gardner-Webb from January 2024 through December 2025. In that role, he assisted the Director of Compliance with organizing eligibility documents, aided students and coaches regarding NCAA compliance regulations and managed ticketing at Gardner-Webb athletic events.
Prior to that, he gained additional experience within the department as a work-study student, providing administrative assistance to the Vice President of Athletics as well as assisting with scheduling meetings and helping with field maintenance for sporting events.
A native of Kings Mountain, N.C., Carr earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management with a minor in Communications from Gardner-Webb in December 2025.
