BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb baseball's summer league contingent has performed at a high level across the country over the past month with strong numbers for several Runnin' Bulldogs.
Two Gardner-Webb arms recently joined teams this summer, with MIchael Portela earning a chance in the prestigious Cape Cod League. The graduate student from Chesapeake, Va., has joined the bullpen of the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape and should make his debut soon.

Bobby Alcock (Wareham Gatemen) on the Cape in 2022. Alcock has seen action in five games for Wareham, going 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA in 9.2 innings of work.
Hard-throwing righty
Connor Maggi recently joined the Kingsport Axemen iin the Appalachian League and made his debut earlier this week. The Forest, Va., native hurled 3.0 shutout frames in relief and struck out five batters.

Nate Anderson. The speedy Anderson has boosted his average to a robust .331 through 30 games with the Axemen, swiping a league-best 21 bags and hitting a league-high 13 doubles.
Casey Young and
Jacob Marcos continue to perform well for the nearby Forest City Owls in the Coastal Plains League (CPL). Young is 0-0 with a 2.07 ERA in four starts, striking out 19 batters in 21.2 innings of work.
Marcos has a .281 batting average and has been hit by 10 pitches so far this summer to boost his on base percentage. The Miami, Fla., centerfielder also has seven stolen bases.
All-Star utility man Jacob McCaskey has heated up more at the plate for the Wilson Tobs, batting .330 with three home runs, 13 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He has also made five appearances out of the bullpen for the Tobs, striking out nine batters in 9.2 innings.
Bo Rusher III is also over the .300 mark in the CPL, batting .306 with a home run and 12 RBI in extensive duty with the Hi-Toms in High Point/Thomasville.
Gardner-Webb's home run king so far this summer is
Peter Capobianco, who has belted five long balls in 33 games for the Johnston MIll Rats in his home state. Capobianco is batting .261 with 20 RBI as well.
