GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Runnin' Bulldogs collected 20 wins across the three-day UNCG Fall Invite this past weekend. Kim Niethammer and
Connor Enslin each impressed during the event, going undefeated in singles play. The tournament hosted eight teams at the competition, with GWU facing six of the other attendees.
"I felt our doubles is in a solid place early in the fall with their seven wins on Friday," said Head Coach
Mike Griffith. Gardner-Webb won three out of four against Presbyterian and split the matches between Campbell and Richmond.
Eduardo Dias and
Chrisjan Van Wyk went 2-1 in their doubles matches, all being played in the topflight. Enslin won each of his doubles matches, once paired with
Numa Lemieux-Monette and the other with
John Spring. Spring and
Victor Putter picked up a decision as well when they paired together. Lemieux-Monette and Niethammar had a 6-4 win over Presbyterian along with
Alex Lepine and
Cathal Butler.
"In singles, what stood out is we have many players that can play very high in the line-up," said Griffith. "After this weekend, it felt really good on the number of players who not only can play 3-6 but who can win there."
In singles, Gardner-Webb was drawn against UNCG, James Madison, and Davidson. Niethammar and Enslin collected a win in each of their three matches during the weekend. Lepine and Putter went 2-1 in their singles matches. Dias, Spring, and Van Wyk each picked up one victory in their competitions.
"Our team is so deep that we could make two teams out of the 10 guys we have," said Griffith. "I am so proud of these guys and am looking forward to the ITA Regionals, but more importantly, the beginning of dual match season next semester!"
Gardner-Webb will have its next tournament on October 21-25 at the ITA Carolina Regionals in Cary, N.C.
