
Boyer and Whittington Finish Strong at Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Jack Boyer and Maddox Whittington each moved over ten spots up the leaderboard to close out play at the Phoenix Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
After shooting a three-over, 74 in the first round, Whittington carded a two-under, 69 in the second round before tallying a one-under, 70 in the third round. The sophomore moved eleven spots up the leaderboard, finishing tied for 30th, shooting an even-par, 213 three-round score. Both Whittington and Boyer excelled on par fives, as did fellow teammate Max White, shooting an average score of a four-under, 4.56 on the longest holes at the Alamance Country Club. Whittington led the Runnin' Bulldogs with 36 pars.
Boyer shot.a two-over, 73 in the opening round, before shooting an even-par, 71 in the second round, and a one-under, 70 in the final round. The Greensboro, N.C. native moved up 13 spots to finish tied for 34th with a one-over, 214 three-round score. Boyer's 12 birdies were the most of any Gardner-Webb golfer.
As a team, Gardner-Webb finished 13th, ahead of Ohio, Dartmouth, and NC A&T with a 16-over, 868 three-round score. The Runnin' Bulldogs had success on par fives, shooting a 16-under, 4.64 average score. The team's 166 pars were the sixth-most of the field.
Bradley Davis, Jr. finished tied for 61st with a seven-over, 220 three-round score. The sophomore shot a 73 and a 75 in the first two rounds, before carding a 72 in the final round. Davis, Jr. picked up 35 pars on the week.
Carter Rains finished tied for 78th with a 13-over, 226 three-round score, while Max White finished tied for 83rd with a 14-over, 227 three-round score.
Elon won the team championship with a 31-under, 821 three-round score. Jack Wofford of Presbyterian College won the individual championship with a 14-under, 199 three-round score.
