Boyer Picks Up Eighth Place Finish at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Jack Boyer picked up a top-10 finish as Gardner-Webb competed at the Furman Intercollegiate this week.
Boyer opened his competition in style, carding a one-under 70 in the opening round before shooting a scintillating four-under 67 in the second round. The Greensboro native finished his play at the Furman Golf Course with a three-over 74 in the final round, culminating in a two-under, 211 three-round score. Boyer excelled on par threes, shooting two-under and an average score of 2.83, the second-best score of the field. His 13 total birdies tied for the second-most of any player in the field.
As a team, Gardner-Webb finished seventh overall, with a three-round score of a 15-over, 867. The Runnin' Bulldogs finished above Big South rivals High Point, Presbyterian College, and Charleston Southern, and finished ahead of regional foes Campbell, William & Mary, Davidson, and Western Carolina. GWU shot 18-under and an average score of 4.60 on par fives as a team, the third-most of any team. Gardner-Webb was also one of just five teams to record multiple eagles during the tournament, with Carter Rains and Bradley Davis, Jr. carding a pair of two-under shots apiece.
Maddox Whittington rose 16 spots up the leaderboard to finish tied for 20th. Whittington shot an even-par 71 in the first round before shooting a two-over 73 in the second round. The sophomore finished strong in the final round, shooting a one-under 70, ending the week with a one-over, 214 three-round score. Whittington shot four-under and an average score of 4.56 on par fives. His 37 total pars led Gardner-Webb.
Max White shot a pair of one-over 72s in the opening two rounds before carding a five-over 76 in the final round. White finished tied for 45th with a seven-over, 220 three-round score.
Rains and Davis, Jr. both finished tied for 73rd as both Runnin' Bulldogs shot a 13-over, 226 three-round score. Rains shot a six-over 77 in the first round, before shooting an even-par 71 in the second. He closed his time at Furman with a seven-over, 78 in the final round. Davis, Jr. shot a five-over 76 in the opening round and shot a pair of four-over 75s in the final two rounds.
Furman won the team championship with a 20-under, 832 three-round score. Paul Conroy of Chattanooga won the individual championship with an eight-under, 205 three-round score.
Gardner-Webb closes out the fall portion of their schedule in Fripp Island, S.C. at the Fripp Island Preview event. Competition begins on Sunday, Nov. 5.
