Andrea Martinez Earns Big South Freshman of the Week

First Freshman of the Week award won by a ‘Dawg since 2021
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Concluding opening week, freshman forward Andrea Martinez has been named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. This is the first Freshman of the Week award won by Gardner-Webb since Alasia Smith on March 1, 2021.
Martinez, led the Big South freshman group in points per game (10 ppg) in two games total over last week. She tied a team-high in points with 16, against Elon University in the Runnin' Bulldogs home opener. Martinez shot well from the floor in her 16-point performance, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor against the Phoenix. She also hauled in five rebounds versus Elon, including four offensively. Martinez picked up four points, three rebounds, and knocked down 2-of-2 from the charity stripe against #16 UNC.
The Barcelona, Spain native opened her freshman campaign with averages of 10 points and four rebounds per game, shooting 3-of-3 from the line and 50 percent from the field.
The Runnin' Bulldogs continue non-conference play against Richmond University on Wednesday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the Paul Porter Arena.
