'DAWG WATCH
First-year Head coach Scott Merritt will guide the 'Dawgs in their third game of the season with the Spiders, after a 0-2 start to the season.
Through two games, junior guard
Ashley Hawkins averages a team-high 33.5 minutes, 15 points, 3.5 assists per game. In the two games Hawkins has started in, she has scored 14 and 16 points. Senior guard
Micahla Funderburk sits behind Hawkins with 11 points per game and a .375 three-point percentage. Funderburk led her team against the #16 Tar Heels in their season opener, tying a career-high 16 points.
Freshman forward
Andrea Martinez remains among the top three in scoring for the 'Dawgs with 10 points per game. The Barcelona, Spain native earned Big South Freshman of the Week on Nov. 14, as she tied a team-high in points with 16 against Elon University in the Runnin' Bulldogs home opener. Martinez shot well in her 16-point performance, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor against the Phoenix. She also hauled in five rebounds (four offensive) against Elon, now averaging four a game which is tied for first on the squad.
SPIDERS TRAVEL TO THE WEBB
The Richmond Spiders enter Wednesday's game at 1-1 with an 83-53 loss at Duke and a 105-44 win over Delaware State on Sunday. Last season Richmond posted a record of 21-11 falling in the second round of the WNIT to the University of Rhode Island 74-64. Richmond leads the all-time series against the Runnin' Bulldogs 1-0 with the Spiders 1-0 against the 'Dawgs under Head Coach Aaron Roussell. The last matchup came on December. 4, 2020, when the Spiders beat Gardner-Webb 85-73 in the Queally Athletic Center in Richmond, Virginia.

Following this middle-of-the-week home game against the Spiders, Gardner-Webb will continue to face non-conference opponents with a local road trip to UNC Charlotte on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
