CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb University women's basketball was defeated by UNC Charlotte on Friday night, November 17 by a score of 93-43 in the Dale F. Halton Arena.
"I have to do a better job of getting my kids mentally ready to play," said Head Coach Scott Merritt. "It's not a physical thing right now. We aren't mentally locked into what Gardner-Webb is trying to do. I'll have to make some adjustments to how we prepare for opponents."
After opening the contest to a 6-0 lead, Gardner-Webb fired back with two quick buckets to cut the lead to two. From that point on, the 49ers could not miss hopping in front by as much as 20 in the first quarter. Charlotte would continue the scoring affair in the second and would walk into the locker room leading, 59-22. The 'Dawgs would play the 49ers tougher in the second half but the margin would be too much to overcome as UNC Charlotte cruised to a 93-43 victory.
