Runnin’ Bulldogs Travel to the College of Charleston Monday Night

Gardner-Webb continue non-conference play against Cougars

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.  – Gardner-Webb's women's basketball heads to its second of three non-conference road games in a row with the College of Charleston on Monday night, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. tipping off in the TD Arena. Monday's game will air live on the Varsity Network App, GWUSports.com/listenlive, and ESPNCLT.com with Phil Constantino and Jim "Mojo" Morrisson calling the action for the Runnin' Bulldogs Sports Network. The game will also stream live on FloSports (my.flosports.tv).
 
'DAWG WATCH
First-year Head coach Scott Merritt guides the 'Dawgs to their fifth game of the season with the Cougars, after an 0-4 opening to the 2023-24 season. 
 
After four non-conference games, junior guard Ashley Hawkins leads the 'Dawgs in scoring averaging 30.8 minutes, 13 points (6th in the Big South), 3.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds per game, and is shooting 43 percent from the field. Hawkins has yet to score below double-digits in the four games for Gardner-Webb this season. Freshman guard Lauren Bailey has been a solid shooter for GWU averaging 24 minutes, with 8.8 points, and 3.5 rebounds. Bailey has hit a three in each game for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
 
Graduate student forward Ramatoulaye Keita has been the prime paint player for GWU with a team-high and t-9th in the Big South, 5.5 rebounds per game. She is also one of two players on the roster this season with a 40+ shooting percentage.
 
CATS AND DOGS MEET UP
The College of Charleston enter Monday's game at 2-1, opening with an 117-30 win over Division III Pfeiffer University, an 85-60 loss over UNLV, and an 70-60 win over Big South foe Charleston Southern University on Friday. Last season the College of Charleston posted a record of 11-18 falling in the opening round of the CAA Championship to Monmouth University 69-54. Gardner-Webb leads the all-time series against the Cougars 1-0. The last matchup came on Nov. 23, 2022, when Gardner-Webb beat Charleston 91-87 in the Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. 
 
GWU HEAD TO THE GATE CITY
Following this Monday away trip against the Cougars, Gardner-Webb will take the week off then hit the road again to face UNC Greensboro on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 2:00 p.m.
