BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A grand slam in the fourth inning by
Matt Ilgenfritz pushed Team Marshall to a 7-3 victory over Team Medic in Game One of the Dawg Bone World Series on Thursday, Nov. 2.
Ilgenfritz led Team Marshall on offense, going 2-for-2 with a double and his grand slam, accounting for four RBI and scoring one run. Tommy Tavarez also showed off his power, going 1-for-3 with a home run of his own.
Team Medic had a chance to tie the game in the seventh inning, but
Connor Maggi and CJ Czerwinski closed the door to preserve the victory.
Joe Stanzione also showed his offensive prowess for Team Marshall, going 1-for-2 with a double.
On the mound, Shelby native Parker Dixon pitched one inning for Team Marshall, striking out three batters and allowing zero hits. Noah Ingle went two innings for Marshall, allowing just one hit and striking out five batters.
Team Medic was led by Jack Clemente on the bump, as the junior went 1.1 innings, allowing zero hits and striking out three batters.
Team Marshall takes a 1-0 series lead into game two of the Dawg Bone World Series. First pitch from Bill Masters Field at John Henry Moss Stadium is set for 3:45 PM on Friday, Nov. 3. Admission is free for all fans.
