HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University men's soccer team fell in their Big South tournament semifinals match at High Point University on Sunday evening by a final of 1-0. The Runnin' Bulldogs and Panthers played a pair of overtimes that ended with HPU on top.
"That was the 90-minute performance I've been waiting for." Said coach Wells. "The team ran through a brick wall for the program tonight. I am so proud of them. It's hard to lose the game but so much to take out of it for a program that is just getting started."
Gardner-Webb kept pace with the top seeded Panthers during the full 90 minutes of regulation. It was until 24 seconds remained on the clock in the first overtime period that the 'Dawgs conceded the lone goal of the contest as High Point's Alex Abril scored in the 99
th minute. GWU continued to apply pressure in the second overtime period before coming up short. Junior goalkeeper
Pat Millard made eight saves in the match.
