Jaylen King Named to FedEx Ground FCS National Freshman of the Week Honorable Mention Team for Third Straight Week

King has gone 3-1 as a starter so far this season
CHICAGO, Ill. - For the third straight week, Jaylen King finds himself among the nation's best, earning a spot on the FedEx Ground FCS National Freshman of the Week Honorable Mention Team, announced by The Analyst on Monday, Nov. 6.
King earns the honor after accounting for four total touchdowns in Gardner-Webb's 45-44 overtime win over Bryant on Saturday, Nov. 4. The Folkston, Ga. native ran the ball 24 times for 108 yards, scoring twice. Through the air, King went 18-for-36 for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
King showed off his athleticism in the second quarter, avoiding a sack before firing a pass to the back of the endzone from 24-yards out to Caleb Borders, giving GWU a 21-10 lead at the time. The freshman also came up clutch for the Runnin' Bulldogs on the game-tying drive in the fourth quarter, picking up 14 yards on a fourth down run. King and the Gardner-Webb offense converted seven of their eight fourth down attempts against Bryant, and have converted 12 of their last 13 fourth down attempts.
Since taking over as the starter, King has gone 3-1, including three straight wins for the Runnin' Bulldogs. So far this season, King has gone 68-for-126 for 714 yards and six touchdowns through the air, while rushing for 315 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. King is averaging 3.4 yards per carry and 52.5 rushing yards a game.
This is the third straight week that King has earned a spot on the FedEx Ground FCS National Freshman of the Week Honorable Mention Team. Earlier today, King was named the Big South-OVC Football Association Freshman of the Week for the second straight week.
Malachi Hosley of Penn was named the FedEx Ground FCS National Freshman of the Week for Week 10.
King and Gardner-Webb travel to Cookeville, Tenn. for their final road game of the season against Tennessee Tech. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM eastern/1:30 PM central on Saturday, Nov. 11.
