Runnin’ Bulldogs face their final non-conference opponent in local Royals
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team hits the road for a local matchup in Charlotte with Queens University (N.C.) on Saturday, December 30 at 2:00 p.m. The game will air live on the Varsity Network App, GWUSports.com/listenlive, and ESPNCLT.com with Mark Binetti on the call for the Runnin' Bulldogs Sports Network. The games will also stream live on ESPN+ (watchespn.com).

'Dawgs junior guard Ashley Hawkins leads the pack in scoring with an average of 15.1 points (4th in the Big South), 4.6 assists (2nd in the Big South), and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 45 percent from the field (2nd in the Big South) and knocking down 82 percent from the charity stripe (2nd in the Big South). At the College of Charleston, she tied the single-game program record for assists with 11 on Nov. 20, which remains the only 10+ assist game among Big South players this season.
Freshman guard Lauren Bailey tails Hawkins in points for GWU averaging 8.8 and averages a 38 three-point percentage (1st in the Big South). Graduate student forward Ramatoulaye Keita has been hauling in rebounds all season for the 'Dawgs with 6.5 per game (5th in the Big South).
THE ROYAL RUMBLE
Queens (N.C.) enter Saturday's game with a 5-7 overall record, opening their season with losses to #12 Ole Miss (91-44) and #1 LSU (112-55). The Royals have experience with Big South foes including wins against USC Upstate (61-51) and Winthrop (64-61), but losses to UNC Asheville (67-53), Presbyterian (68-60), and Radford (62-46). Last season, Queens posted a record of 8-21 missing out on the ASUN Tournament. This is the ninth meeting between Gardner-Webb and Queens (N.C) while the 'Dawgs lead the series 6-2. The last meeting between the two came on November 22, 1994 in Boiling Springs with Gardner-Webb winning by a score of, 97-93. The last win for the Royals happened on January 12, 1994 with a score of 85-77 in Charlotte.
GWU OPENS BIG SOUTH ACTION
After this Saturday's matchup with the Royals, Gardner-Webb takes a few days off before returning to Boiling Springs on Saturday, Jan. 6 to face High Point University at 1:00 p.m.
