Runnin' Bulldogs Pick Up 67-59 Road Win At Charleston Southern Wednesday Night

Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. – Gardner-Webb got 15 points from Kareem Reid and Anthony Selden Wednesday night to win 67-59 at Charleston Southern.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (12-11, 7-4 Big South) won their seventh in a row over the Buccaneers (8-14, 4-7 Big South).

Gardner-Webb used a 9-0 run late in the first half to create some cushion. The 'Dogs led just 25-24 with 5:12 to play in the opening stanza, but Quest Aldridge started a key spurt by nailing a three.

A pair of Reid free throws and a hook shot from Ludovic Dufeal continued the run and Selden put GWU up 34-24 with 2:05 left before half with a driving layup.

Gardner-Webb led 36-27 at the break, but Charleston Southern slowly crept back into the game in the second half.

After the Bucs trimmed the lead to 37-35 with 16:55 to go, Gardner-Webb went on another run – a 15-5 sprint – that put the visitors up 52-40 with 9:50 to go after an old fashioned trifecta from Reid.

That lead reached 59-44 with 5:00 left, but Charleston Southern made another push – getting as close as seven points down the stretch before Gardner-Webb put the game away at the free throw line in the final 90 seconds.

DQ Nicholas scored 12 points and Julien Soumaoro added nine points for the Runnin' Bulldogs, who shot 48.0 percent from the floor and 13-of-17 from the free throw line to win.

The Runnin' Bulldogs also played strong on the defensive end, limiting the Bucs to 37.7 percent shooting (20-of-53). Charleston Southern put five men in double figures, led by Claudell Harris, Jr., with 13.

Only six Buccaneers scored in the game.

Gardner-Webb returns home for a key Big South battle on Saturday, hosting Presbyterian at 2:00 pm in Paul Porter Arena. Tickets are available online at GWUSports.com.
