Gardner-Webb Hosts Campbell Saturday Afternoon In Key Men's Basketball Clash

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb will host Campbell on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm in another key Big South Conference men's basketball game.

The game is part of a special day in Boiling Springs, as the school kicks off Hoopscoming Week to celebrate a rich basketball tradition on Saturday. Gardner-Webb's 2022 Big South Championship football team will be honored – and the 2022 N.C. East/West BBQ Bowl trophy hoisted – as part of Saturday's in-game festivities.

A lucky fan will also have a chance to win bacon for a year courtesy of the North Carolina Pork Council.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (14-11, 9-4 Big South) are riding a season-best win streak of six games – longest active streak in the league – after its nationally-televised win at Radford on Thursday.

Gardner-Webb clamped down on the Highlanders to snap a nine-game win streak and split the season series.

The win moved GWU into a tie for third place with five games left to play in the regular season race. Gardner-Webb is now two games behind first-place UNC Asheville in the standings.

DQ Nicholas (12.3 ppg), Anthony Selden (11.0 ppg), Kareem Reid (10.2 ppg) and Julien Soumaoro (9.7 ppg) continue to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs on offense – but the team's defense has been its calling card for much of the season.

On Thursday, Gardner-Webb blocked five shots and had eight steals against Radford, limiting the Highlanders to a 19-of-59 shooting effort for the game (32.2 percent).

Campbell (11-14, 6-7 Big South) sits in a three-way tie for fifth and is fresh off a blowout win over High Point. The Camels have won four out of their last six and captured a 63-58 win over Gardner-Webb on their home court in January.

Ricky Clemons (13.0 ppg), Anthony Dell'Orso (10.9 ppg), Jay Pal (10.7 ppg) and Jesus Carralero (10.6 ppg) lead the team in scoring.

Saturday's game will stream live on ESPN+ (WatchESPN.com) with Phil Constantino and Jerry Dunn.
