BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb took down Belmont-Abbey on Wednesday afternoon. The second of the doubleheader was canceled due to the weather, but the final score stood at 5-0 in the first before the rest of it was deemed unplayable.

Mike Griffith said, "Unfortunately we could not finish the complete match, but now we can get back on the practice courts and work on a couple of areas and get ready for Sunday's match against UNCG.
In doubles, the Runnin' Bulldogs swept the visitors. It started with a 6-1 score in the topflight from
Eduardo Dias and
Chrisjan Van Wyk and was clinched by
Numa Lemieux-Monette and
Victor Putter by a 6-4 decision in flight #2. It was rounded out by
Cathal Butler and
John Spring winning 7-5 on court #3.
Singles play saw much of the same strong performances from Gardner-Webb as Dias opened it with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the topflight. His match was quickly followed by
Kim Neithammar winning 6-0, 6-1 on court #6.
Putter clinched the team's win with his 6-1, 6-1 victory on court #3.
Sebastian Harris was able to finish his match as the rain began to fall with impressive shots all afternoon. The score of his match ended with it at 6-1, 6-2.
The matches on courts #2 and #5 went unfinished due to the rainy conditions.
Alex Lepine led in his match with the score 6-2, 4-1.
Johannes Van Wijk was leading in his team debut by a score of 6-3, 3-1.
Gardner-Webb has their next match on Sunday against UNC Greensboro at 1:00 p.m. as part of the team's long homestand.
