Runnin' Bulldogs Tally Seventh Straight Win on Sunday, Downs UNCG 6-1

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb took down UNC Greensboro on Sunday afternoon by a 6-1 decision as the Runnin' Bulldogs got their seventh win in a row.
 
"I was pleased on how we came back at #1 doubles and how we jumped on them at #3," said Head Coach Mike Griffith. "It was an overall good team effort and shows how fun of a group we are to watch."
 
In #3 doubles, GWU used the pairing of Cathal Butler and Sebastian Harris for the first time in a dual this year with them coming away with a decisive 6-0 victory. Eduardo Dias and Chrisjan Van Wyk shortly finished theirs with it ending at 6-4 in the topflight. The #2 doubles match went unfinished with GWU leading in it 5-4.
 
Gardner-Webb was able to quickly clinch the team's win as they won on courts 1, 2 and 6 in straight sets. Alex Lepine's on #2 was the first to conclude at 6-3, 6-0 with Dias' in the top position wrapping up shortly after at 6-2, 6-2. Kim Niethammer sealed the win with the team's fourth point of the afternoon on his 6-1, 6-1 decision in flight #6.
 
The matches on the middle courts were much closer with a pair of them going to three sets. Numa Lemieux-Monette won 7-5, 6-4 in position #4. Victor Putter lost in a tiebreaker in the third set after overcoming a loss from the first set on court #3. In the final match to be completed of the day, Sebastian Harris dropped his first set at #5 by a 7-6 (3) scoreline. He went on to win the remaining two by 6-2, 10-5.
 
Gardner-Webb now stands at 7-2 on the season after winning their past seven, including four during this week. The team will host three matches late next week to round out their long homestand. The matches next week include Elon (2/23), Limestone (2/24), and Georgia Southern (2/26).
