Runnin' Bulldogs Fall To Southeastern Louisiana, Northwestern State On Day Two

YOUNGSVILLE, LA – Gardner-Webb went into extra innings with undefeated Southeastern Louisiana to start day two of the Mardi-Gras Mambo.

Andrea Lyon continued her hot-streak, homering in the first inning to score Kasey Fava who led off with a single. The 'dogs would string together four more hits, but were unable to bring anyone else home the rest of the game.

Annicka McLaughlin and Adrienne Visintine had two hits each. McLaughlin hit two singles, one in the third inning to the pitcher and one in the fifth to third base. Visintine singled in the first inning and the eighth.

Alli Stidham pitched seven innings before Lyon came in for the extras. The freshman faced 31 batters and only gave up one earned run.

The Runnin' Bulldogs ended up falling 3-2 to the Lions.

In game two Lyon homered again. Northwestern State was up 1-0 when the senior hit a solo-shot to left field to tie the game.

The Demons would use a three-run homerun to regain the lead in the top of the fifth.

Lyon added another RBI to her tally, hitting a single to score Visintine and make it a two run game again in the bottom of the fifth.

However, Northwestern State went on to score four runs in the top of the sixth and Gardner-Webb was unable to match it.

Kalyn Kyle started the game on the mound and Clara Wyatt came in in the fifth. Overall it was a day filled with freshman pitchers, outside of the extra innings pitched by Lyon.

Getting the freshmen experience was something head coach Bailey Wigness said was important in order for them to be ready when called upon later in the season.

On offense, the Runnin' Bulldogs tallied seven hits. Taylor Perry got a hit in all three of her at-bats. Lyon was 2-3 in the game with two RBIs. Kiara Kennedy hit a single and Visintine hit a double.

Gardner-Webb will wrap up the Mardi Gras Mambo against Louisiana Tech Sunday at 11:00AM CST. This will conclude the three-day event from Youngsville, Louisiana.
