Gardner-Webb Men's Basketball Hosts Blue Hose Saturday In Key Big South Battle

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb men's basketball is riding a four-game win streak into Saturday's 2 pm showdown with Presbyterian in Paul Porter Arena.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (12-11, 7-4 Big South) sit three games behind first-place UNC Asheville in a tie for third with Longwood with seven games remaining on the league slate.

Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian (5-19, 1-10 Big South) battled into overtime in their January meeting, before the Runnin' Bulldogs prevailed in Clinton, S.C.

During its current four-game win streak, Gardner-Webb is shining on the defensive end – limiting opponents to 61.0 points per game and forcing 16.0 turnovers per game.

On offense, GWU has coughed up just 8.5 turnovers per game during its win streak and is shooting a crisp 51.4 percent from the floor.

DQ Nicholas has starred in the rise, averaging 17.5 points and shooting 61 percent himself over the last four starts. The frontcourt played a big role on Wednesday night in Charleston, with 6-foot-9 Kareem Reid and 6-foot-6 skywalker Anthony Selden pouring in 15 points each to help GWU pull away.

Gardner-Webb's record is somewhat deceiving, with nine of the team's 11 losses this season coming by two possessions or less.

Head coach Tim Craft – who sits at 99 Big South Conference wins for his career heading into Saturday – has relied on a steady five in his starting lineup for much of the season, with Caleb Robinson, Quest Aldridge, Lucas Stieber and Ademide Badmus providing punch off the bench.

Nicholas leads the team this season overall in scoring (12.4 ppg), followed by Selden (10.7 ppg), Reid (10.4 ppg) and Julien Soumaoro (9.8 ppg).

Presbyterian has found scoring pop from freshman Jalen Forrest, the son of former Georgia Tech star James Forrest. The Decatur, Ga., native is averaging 12.2 points per game as a rookie.

Saturday's game will stream live on ESPN+ (WatchESPN) with audio airing on ESPNCLT.com.
